Dear Colleagues and Students,
The recent spate of confrontations and unrest have left many Hong Kong people shocked. After all these confrontations, we should allow things to settle, take stock of what has happened and reflect upon the way forward. Among the many views expressed, I believe most would agree that continued confrontations and the use of violence will not in any way help resolve the current impasse plaguing Hong Kong. I also believe that we must have the courage to address the existing social tensions and their causes.
Personally, I feel disheartened to see the rift in society. I appeal to all sectors to start a genuine, rational dialogue with mutual respect, having due regard to the long-term well-being of Hong Kong. To this end, it is crucial for the Government to take the lead and to sincerely listen to the voices and aspirations of Hong Kong people. Each and every one of us has a role to play, and we should do whatever possible in the best interests of the place we call home.
By putting the confrontations behind us, it is my sincere hope that we can make a new start through acceptance.
